The experience of academic physician coaches in a professional development coaching program

The Professional Development Coaching Program (PDCP) is a physician coaching program founded on the principles of positive psychology that has been shown to improve burnout and well-being in residents. experience faculty coaches not well understood. We studied impact longitudinal intervention coaches. From 2017 2019, from Surgery, Pediatrics, Medicine at an academic medical center participated as PDCP. Coaches underwent training skills coached trainees for one or two years. Surveys were performed baseline, after 1 year (EOY-1), 2 years (EOY-2). Outcomes include professional fulfillment (Stanford Fulfillment Index), (PERMA), with skills. each timepoint paired analyzed through bivariate analyses multivariate linear regression. Of 136 who participated, 44% submitted sufficient data analysis. There was no change pre- post- primary outcomes On regression, PERMA scores declined baseline but did EOY-1 EOY-2. reported increased coping EOY surveys compared baseline. Confidence associated low burnout, high fulfillment, PERMA. These findings create profile demonstrate both benefits changes they experience. Larger studies comparison groups can further explore effects coach.
